Tuesday, 26.May 2009 - 19:16 A new service for LASIK surgeons and patients (April 4, 2009) Everybody over 40 should have their eyes checked regularly for increased eye pressure, a risk factor for the development of glaucoma. However, the standard instruments used by many practitioners (the Goldmann tonometer or the non-contact "air-puff" tonometer) may furnish false-low readings when applied to a cornea whose biomechanics have been altered by LASIK. Post-LASIK patients should therefore always ask to have their eye pressure checked with a PASCAL tonometer when they go for their annual eye exam. To remind them, and their eye doctors, of this important detail, LASIK surgeons can now issue an IOP PAss to their patients. The IOP Pass contains imortant information that a practitioner needs to be aware of when measuring their patients' eye pressure. To support IOP awareness, Ziemer now equips participating LASIK surgeons with free PASCAL tonometers and with blank IOP Passes to issue to their patients.
